Inactivation of the NF1 gene reduced life spans in females. NF1 mutant strains (NF1 and NF1 ) and their intercross (NF1 p1/p2) showed shorter life spans than the control K33.
Double mutant Nf1(DF);Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 34.0 days, while single mutant Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 34.0 days, single mutant Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 12.0 days and wild type has a lifespan of 44.0 days.

The NF1 P1 mutant strain had a 60%-73% reduction in life span, and the NF1 P2 mutant strain had a 24%-40% reduction in life span, relative to the isogenic K33 control strain. The NF1 P1/P2 intercross heterozygotes had a life span similar to the NF1 P2 flies.
Double mutant Nf1(DF);Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 38.0 days, while single mutant Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 38.0 days, single mutant Nf1(DF) has a lifespan of 20.0 days and wild type has a lifespan of 50.0 days.
